Hello Gardeners!

This spring weather is so crazy!  I must admit that I have to brace myself before looking out the window in the morning; snow is so disconcerting!

Great news!  A wonderful group of youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 15th Ward, came to the garden and removed rocks from the family plots section of the field.  I'm sure that will make all of you that have reserved field space soooooo happy!  I think the plows will appreciate less rocks on Saturday too!  Go to our our facebook page to view pictures: East Valley Farm to School Program.

Speaking of plows and Saturday, the Inland Empire Gas  and Steam Buffs are coming to plow the field on Saturday morning at 10am.  We sure appreciate their generosity and will be happy to take cash donations Saturday to help them cover the cost of their diesel fuel.

There is much to do to get ready for planting and once the plowing is done the work will commence to get the field plots marked out and assigned, the new irrigation dug and hooked up, furrows made and the main irrigation pipe laid out.  I will have the field plots assigned by the end of the month as the final furrows need to be made before I stake everything out.

As you are planning your crops, please don't forget about 2nd Harvest's Plant a Row program.  You plant and harvest a bit extra and donate it to local food band outlets and hungry people get fed fresh produce!  What a great act of service!

Enjoy your spring and I'll see you at the garden!

The East Valley Farms and Schools Partnership have created an exciting opportunity to help the community members and students of the East Valley School District understand the complexities of farming and gardening while building unity among community members. We feel the scope of our community garden is limited only by our imagination and determination. Not only will classrooms have this opportunity, but all community members. Families are the backbone of our schools and when families are supported in investing time with each other then families can be more successful. Grandparents, neighbors and students alike can come together and grow together through gardening.
