Hi Everyone!

Great news!!!!  The wheat is ready to be harvested!  This Friday between 9am and 2pm Blaine and Tyler Fricke will be cutting the wehat with their combine as classes come out to watch.  Come on out and say hi and if you are a teacher, bring your class with you!  ADM will clean the wheat for us and then our students will grind the wheat to use in the kitchens and their cooking projects.

We have harvested 734 pounds from the farm to date with 71 pounds going to the school so far.  We have yet to harvest carrots and beets  and the winter squash.  Thanks to the studens from A New Journey Middle School for helping to harvest two days a week.  We have a great time on our treasure hunts for beans, tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers.  Brioccoli did well; 71 pounds and 115 pounds of lettuce.  It has been a pretty disappointing season overall, but I keep looking forward to next year and working with the new tractor.
EVMS has four classes that will participate in farm and shop activities--welcome students and teacher Jon Larsen.  The shed is coming along nicely as the students from the new construction class with Harmony High School finish the project.  Other students from Harmony are growing beautiful tomatoes and peppers with a goal to harvest and market the dried peppers.  Our students are gaining so much experience from the farm and some of our community members have had some gorgeous produce harvested from the hard work they have put into their plots.
I hope to have the Farm completely harvested and plowed under by the middle of November.  If you have a plot in the field, please pull up your stakes once you have finished your harvesting; no hurry, just a bit of direction for closing down the Farm.  You can put your stakes over by the shed.  If you had a raised bed and would like to keep that bed for next year, just drop me an email and let me know.  It was great to see you all out at the Farm and Garden.
See you all around the Farm and Garden!
Lynette

The East Valley Farms and Schools Partnership have created an exciting opportunity to help the community members and students of the East Valley School District understand the complexities of farming and gardening while building unity among community members. We feel the scope of our community garden is limited only by our imagination and determination. Not only will classrooms have this opportunity, but all community members. Families are the backbone of our schools and when families are supported in investing time with each other then families can be more successful. Grandparents, neighbors and students alike can come together and grow together through gardening.
