The next ten days don’t show low’s lower than 40. That is great; we can keep the tomatoes out in the field! The day time temps aren’t anything to get really excited about, but it is better than freezing temps at night.
There are some events that you might be interested in and I hope to be able to get some help with.
On Sept. 13th from 6-8pm we are having our last weeding party in preparation for a county garden tour. Our garden has been put on the tour map and so it is time to shine! Please come out and help get the garden into top shape for visitors.
On Sept. 18th from 10am -2pm the garden will be on display for members of the whole county to visit. As soon as I get a map, I’ll forward it on and give more details on that event. It might be fun to see other gardens in the area and get ideas for our own.
We have two more groups coming to help at the garden; unfortunately they come after the 18th! They will have plenty to do in harvesting potatoes and getting the garden ready for “bed”.
Thank you all for all your care in your own garden space and in helping out the district with its crops. What a great community we have!
See you all on the 13th at 6pm!
Thank you to Fairchild ALS for coming and spending three hours in the garden weeding and mowing and tilling and then another hour giving us feedback on ways to improve the project. We appreciate you!
What a agreat day cutting wheat with Mr. Connelly's second and third graders and their parents. We timed 10 cuts and then will add that time to our attempt to set the world's record in time from harvesting wheat to baking into a bisquit. The great thing about setting the world's record in this event is that others will try to beat it and in so doing will grow their own wheat and hopefully learn about the importance of wheat in the world's diet, the importance of helping others to learn to grow their own crops and of course have fun while doing it!
See you at the garden!
Hi All!
The garden has received a great gift of service from Fairchild AFB. Forty Airmen will be put to work this Saturday at the garden as part of their leadership training. I am excited to have yet another group of willing hands. They will be finishing the weeding, fertilizing some of the district crops, mowing and trimming around the beds and mounding the potatoes. A big thank you goes to Julie Nesbitt from Second Harvest for putting the word out to her network of volunteers!
Harvesting is going right along. Jean harvested another 23 lbs of produce that was donated on Friday. The crops are looking great!
See you at the garden!

Hi All!
Last night 70 adults and children from the 17th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints came to weed the garden. In no time at all the eastern tomato patch and squash was weeded as was other small patches around the garden. Thank you!
After harvesting this morning, Jean, our harvester has taken 35 lbs of produce to Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank. Thanks to Jean for taking on this job!
If you have extra produce that you would like to donate to the members of the garden, just leave it on the center most bench in the raised bed area. You can also take any donations to any local food bank outlet.
See you at the garden!
