School Closure Procedures
School Closure Procedures
During the season of extreme weather conditions, the District Transportation Director or his/her designated representative, in conjunction with the Superintendent or an administrative staff member, will conduct early district roadway inspection for safe passage of school buses. Upon completion of inspection by 5:00 a.m., a recommendation will be made to the Superintendent of Schools or his designee. 1. Recommendations: A. Close all schools. B. Schools to remain open with or without selective road closures. C. Schools to remain open with a delayed starting bell time.
Note: If school is closed or activity runs canceled, all extra-curricular activities throughout the district are also canceled immediately for that day. There will be no a.m. kindergarten on delayed start days. 2. Implications of School Closure or Late Arrival:
A. Superintendent of Schools or designee will notify ESD 101 of their decision between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. B. ESD 101 will notify or relay to local radio/TV stations for announcements starting at 6:00 a.m.

Students, district staff and patrons are encouraged to monitor the above designated radio/TV stations during extreme weather conditions.C. District office will notify building principals or designee of decision. D. Building principals/designees, via established emergency building phone tree systems, will notify building staff. E. Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor will notify transportation and maintenance staff via phone tree.
3. Road Closures: A. Transportation Department will regulate and manage the road closure plan in conjunction with Spokane County and Washington State Road Departments. Information and procedures about specific roads and alternate pickup/drop-off areas were sent home to parents.
4. Out of Town Road Trips: A. In the event of extreme weather conditions, a safety assessment will be made prior to departure of any trip including scheduled sporting events, with the Washington State Patrol weather office and hosting school(s) to the feasibility of travel. B. In the event of rapid deterioration of travel/weather conditions from a destination to home, it may be necessary to remain at the destination until weather permits for return. This determination will be coordinated through the local and Washington State Patrol authorities. Travel coaches/staff are required to submit to Activity Coordinator and Transportation Department, a travel roster by name and phone number prior to departure.
5. After School Activities: A. School is closed. When school is closed there will be no practice sessions for sport teams or co-curricular activities. B. Holidays/Vacations. It will be left up to coaches, after reviewing weather conditions, if practice sessions should be held. If sessions are held, the individual coaches are responsible for securing the building. C. If weather conditions deteriorate throughout the day, the activity runs may be cancelled In that event, students need to take their regular bus home. Waiting for the activity bus could result in increased risk for safe transportation home.
6. If school is closed, YMCA programs, Latch Key and county recreation leagues are also not to use the building.
