Graduation Requirements
Beginning with the graduating Class of 2008, all public high school students will be expected to meet new statewide requirements in order to earn a diploma. Why are the graduation requirements changing? What is the purpose of the High School and Beyond Plan? What supports are in place to help students in special education? You will find answers to these questions -- and many more -- on the new graduation requirements Web site launched by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). Meeting State Standards on WASL by Graduation East Valley has provided links to necessary and pertinent information on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). This document is for seniors who have not met state learning standards in reading, writing and math. Please visit www.waslinfo.org. All Washington State high school students are expected to earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA). Until 2013, students may earn a high school diploma without a CAA if they pass the High School WASL (or one of the CAA options) in reading and writing AND continue to earn mathematics credits and take the mathematics WASL every year until graduation. Learn more about the CAA Options at www.k12.wa.us/assessment/CAAoptions/default.aspx. The following information provides answers to frequently asked questions about students in special education and their participation in the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) and/or the Washington Alternate Assessment System (WAAS).
