Certified School Bus Driver
JOB DESCRIPTION 2011-2012
REPORTS TO: Transportation
Supervisor and Manager of Fiscal Affairs
PURPOSE: Operate
school buses under all weather conditions.
Transport students and other authorized persons over regular routes and
extra curricular trips as authorized by the school district and as required by
district needs.
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain the safety and well
being of each child as their number one major responsibilities.
Drive
school bus on scheduled routes and/or on trips in support of district approved
activities, in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies
of the East Valley School District.
Inspect
and clean school buses and related equipment as required by state and district
policy: to include washing, sweeping, adding and checking fuel levels.
Maintain
control of student passengers as related to safety. Report unsafe acts or
situations, which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
Complete
forms, records and reports as required by the state or local school district
policies.
Successfully
complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by the
state superintendent of public instruction or the school district.
Operate
and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited
to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, snow chains, sanders, first aid
kits, body fluid kits, etc.
Perform
required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and all related
equipment.
Ability
to perform basic first aid/CPR as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must
favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
Must
pass random drug testing as required by law and may be required to undergo a
post-offer medical examination.
Preferential
consideration for experience and performance in developing effective parent,
family, and community partnerships.
Minimum
age of 21 years.
Possess
a valid Washington State school bus driver certificate.
Possess
a valid driver’s license with the appropriate endorsement.
Meet
the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks and
responsibility of a school bus driver as described in this job description.
Ability
to communicate in a positive manner with students, parents, district staff
members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related
activities.
Must
possess sufficient strength and agility to assist ill or physically impaired
students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
Successfully
pass Department of Transportation physical and physical capabilities test.
Demonstrate
ability to work harmoniously with students, parents, patrons and staff.
Knowledge of student behavior at
appropriate grade levels and ability to administer appropriate progressive
discipline while recognizing and respecting student rights and
responsibilities.
Possess
a valid/current first aid card.
